Who Are Zebras?
Doctors are taught that when they hear hoofs, think horse. Most of the time, they will be correct. Most of the time, it's a horse. But every now and then, it's a zebra. Sometimes, a seemingly common symptom is actually caused by a rare condition. For me, that rare condition is Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome. EDS is a genetic connective tissue disorder that affects collagen. It can affect almost any part of the body, with symptoms like easy bruising, hyper-flexibility, frequent dislocations, tears, and other injuries, gum disease, fragile blood vessels, heart abnormalities, and chronic, debilitating pain.
